About
The National Energy Office Act was established in November of 2018. Prior to becoming an office, we were housed under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Commerce as an Energy Planning Division. Later, the National Energy Office Act was established and passed through the legislature (Nitijela), and oversight was then transferred to the Office of the President under the portfolio of the Minister in Assistant to the President. In 2020, the Ministry of Environment was established and NEO is now currently with the Ministry of Environment under the same portfolio of the Minister in Assistant to the President and Environment.
As the primary government agency responsible for Energy policies and regulations in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Office promotes and assists the development of the Energy Sector in a sustainable and productive manner by promoting the usage of alternative and sustainable energy resources, which produces electricity using Solar Photovoltaics, Wind and Ocean Current. With our targets stated in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) based on the National Energy Policy and Energy Action Plan (NEP&EAP), an Electricity roadmap was created as a guiding tool that paves the way to reach our zero-net emission 2050 target.
